Principal



Mr. Martin has 18 years' experience in lodging and real estate investment and consulting.  He currently sits on HPI Apartment Opportunity Fund I's  advisory board.  From January 2008 until December 2011 he was acting CFO / Managing Director of Grand Heritage Hotel Group.

In November 2008 BPM & Company and Grand Heritage closed their first joint-aquisition, the leasehold purchase of the 50-key Grove Isle Resort & Spa in Miami, Florida.  In July of 2009 they jointly participated in the recapitalization of the 292-key Biltmore in Providence, Rhode Island, and in November of 2009 they were part of the acquisition of the 177-key Peaks Resort & Spa in Telluride, Colarado.  In December of 2010, Mr. Martin was responsible for the recapitalization of the Stanely Hotel, Colorado, with proceeds enabling Mr. Cullen to buy-out his existing partners reserve money for a substantial renovation of the property and cash-out a portion of his principal investment.  In these transactions Mr. Martin oversaw the transaction capitalization and underwriting, and was the lead in the financial negotiation, transaction structuring and ultimate closing.

Until mid-2007, Mr. Martin was a Principal of Trinity Hotel Investors L.L.C. ("Trinity"), a company which he was of the founding partners of in October of 2002.  At Trinity, Mr. Martin's primary focus was raising and structuring both debt and equity for investments, sourcing investment opportunities and overseeing both the underwriting and due diligence process.  During his time with Trinity, Mr. Marin was directly responsible for 18 of the firm's 22 hotel acquisitions , totaling approximately $450 million in investment.  Mr. Martin profitably liquidated all of his Trinity holdings upon sale of his partnership interest in 2007. 

Just prior to founding Trinity, in March 2002 Mr. Martin and Mr. Ruff through their respective holding companies partnered with founder William O'Donnell and several smaller investment groups in the taking private transaction for NextHealth Inc.  In 2006 and 2007 the holdings were liquidated at a substantial IRR to all investors.

Prior to this, Mr. Martin held positions with Jack A Shaffer & Company, Highgate Holdings, Sonnenblick-Goldman Company and Legg Mason.  During his time with these companies Mr. Martin acted as lender or arranged investments in over $3.5 billion in real estate, primarily hospitality related, transactions.  Mr Martin holds degrees in economics and history form Fairfield University and formerly taught at New York University's Real Estate Institute.
